Chief of Police David Allen

David Allen joined the Town of Surfside as  Chief of Police in October 2006. Chief Allen has over 36 years of experience in law enforcement. He retired as a Major from the Miami Beach Police Department. He has supervised units in Patrol, Traffic, SWAT, Internal Affairs, Narcotics, Organized Crime, Field Training Program, Specialized Units, and Criminal Investigations.

Chief Allen has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the FBI National Academy Associates, Florida Police Chiefs Association, and the Miami-Dade County Chiefs of Police Association. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the South Florida Money Laundering Strike Force and the Region XIV Training Council.  

Chief Allen’s vision is to continue to build the Surfside Police Department into a leading law enforcement agency through accountability, quality hiring and training practices, and provide the highest level of professional and courteous service to the community.

Captain of Police Julio Yero

Julio Yero was appointed Captain of the Town of Surfside Police Department in November 2014. Captain Yero began his law enforcement career as an officer with the Surfside Police Department in 1986. He transferred to the Miami Beach Police Department in 1990 and retired as a Lieutenant before rejoining the Surfside Police Department.  

Captain Yero has over 28 years of law enforcement experience. He has served as a Patrol Operations Shift Commander, Internal Affairs Commander and Criminal Investigations Homicide Unit Supervisor.  

Captain Yero has been involved in the operational planning, coordination and management of a variety of Major Events such as the Miami Beach Memorial Day Weekend, Spring Break, Super Bowl festivities, and numerous special details including protests and civil demonstrations. Captain Yero was a Hostage Negotiations Team Commander for seven years adding to his experience in the handling of critical incidents. In 2013, Captain Yero was honored to have been selected to lead a contingent of officers to Washington D.C. as part of the security detail for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Lieutenant of Police John Bambis
John Bambis was appointed Lieutenant of the Town of Surfside Police Department in April 2015. Lieutenant Bambis began his law enforcement career as an officer with the Miami Beach Police Department in 1989, and retired as a Major before joining the Surfside Police Department. Lieutenant Bambis has over 27 years of law enforcement experience. He has served as an Operations Division Commander, Support Services Division Commander, Technical Services Division Commander, Narcotics Unit Commander, Special Events Voluntary Response Team Commander, Homeless Outreach Coordinator, and Commander of the Crime Prevention Unit of the Miami Beach Police Department.
Lieutenant Bambis has coordinated Major Events Planning to include staffing and operational plans for Memorial Day Weekend, Art Deco Weekend, and the South Florida Wine and Food Festival.
Lieutenant Bambis holds a Bachelors degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy 235th Session, and the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course where he earned the Director’s Award for Academic Excellence.
