Mark Blumstein, a United States Naval Officer, Attorney and Surfside resident since 2000, Mr. Blumstein was elected to the Town of Surfside Commission in 2006. Active in his community, Mr. Blumstein volunteered to serve Team Surfside in municipal projects, including beach planting. Prior to his election, Mr. Blumstein was appointed by the Town of Surfside Commission to serve on an advisory committee during 2005 to consider the future of the Town’s Community Center.
Mr. Blumstein is a former active duty Judge Advocate General in the United States Navy and continues to serve our nation as a reservist in the U.S. Navy.
Professionally, Mr. Blumstein is a Shareholder at Gordon, Hargrove & James, PA where he devotes his practice principally to commercial and franchisor-franchisee litigation. He has been a member in good standing of The Florida Bar since 1996 and served as Chair of its Military Affairs Committee. Mr. Blumstein is licensed to practice in all federal and state courts within the State of Florida.
Mr. Blumstein is a native of Miami and son to Cuban-born parents. His father retired from Miami-Dade County Public Schools after teaching Spanish for over 25 years. Mr. Blumstein continues to serve Miami-Dade County Public Schools, having been appointed by the Miami-Dade County School Board to serve on its Attendance Boundary Committee. Mr. Blumstein is also a product of this school system, having graduated from North Beach Elementary, Nautilus Junior High School and Miami Beach Senior High School in 1987. He is a 1991 graduate of the University of Florida where he received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a specialty in Finance. In 1996, he received his Juris Doctor Magna Cum Laude from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University.
Mr. Blumstein’s business experience includes managing and operating major retail stores and banking centers where he was responsible for sizeable budgets. He has been invited to speak before his fellow attorneys at symposiums and legal conferences, as well as before the general public.
He is married to Dalia Blumstein with whom he has three young children – Joel, Allen and Eva.
