Commissioner Steven Levine

Commissioner Steven Levine, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1956. A graduate of James Madison High School in 1974 and Brooklyn College in 1978, he earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1981. Mr. Levine was in private practice for two years before joining the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office. He now serves as an Assistant Public Defender in the Felony Division.

Mr. Levine is married to Elizabeth Levine, the former Elizabeth Borroto, who is a Registered Nurse and now serves as the Chair of the School of Nursing at Miami Dade College, Medical Center Campus. Mr. and Mrs. Levine have three minor children, 18, 17 and 12, and their family has been very active in the public schools. They have lived in Surfside since 1987. Mr. Levine has also served as a Den Leader and Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 320. As an attorney, he has served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Mr. Levine is also active in his synagogue and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Temple Menorah.
