The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently proposed to make changes to flight plans above South Florida in order to consolidate current paths into more concentrated bands of traffic. This may bring changes in noise levels to the Surfside area.
The flight path changes stem from the FAA’s nationwide switch to the Next Generation Air Transportation System, or NextGen. This switch will help save fuel and improve pilot-to-airport communication, ensuring a higher level of safety, efficiency and environmental responsibility. The FAA will conduct its environmental study this summer and host a round of workshops before incorporating the NextGen system by 2021 in Florida.
Once more information about these workshops is made available, we will notify residents of dates and locations.
