The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially started on June 1 and ends on November 30. It is crucial to be prepared and to be Hurricane Ready in order to ensure your safety.
There are a number of resources to help you prepare for a hurricane and stay informed:
Make a Plan
In case a mandatory evacuation order is issued for the Town of Surfside, it is vital to have an evacuation plan. Residents are strongly encouraged to take mandatory evacuations seriously. Members of the Police Department will be required to evacuate as well. Please note that emergency services will be unavailable during a storm.
The Town of Surfside is located in Zone B of the Storm Surge Planning Zones, meaning that it is at risk for storm surge during a Category 2 hurricane (96 - 110 mph winds) and higher. Therefore, the area will be evacuated in the event of a Category 2 hurricane or above.

Please keep in mind it may take some time to reenter the area after a hurricane. For the safety of residents, the Police and Public Works Departments will need to assess the area for downed power lines and/or hazards first.
Have a Hurricane Kit
Stock up on hurricane essentials and emergency supplies by the start of hurricane season on June 1. For a disaster kit checklist, visit: Miami-Dade County Hurricane Guide
For non-emergencies, please contact the Surfside resident hotline at 305.861.4862.
Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies only.
Report power outages directly to Florida Power & Light (FPL) online (at FPL) or 1.800.4.OUTAGE. It is important to note the Town of Surfside is a customer of FPL, like individual residents, and therefore is unable to influence when power will be restored to the area.
Trim trees limbs around power lines and discard heavy landscaping and bulk items prior to a tropical storm or hurricane watch or hurricane warning. For further tips, please refer to: Be Hurricane Ready - Resident and Business Owner Responsibilities
