ZOOM in for Cool Classes and other Activities from Parks and Recreation

Work off all your bottled up energy with a variety of classes courtesy of the Surfside Parks and Recreation Department. The team is offering a regular rotation of fitness workouts, youth sports, story times, sing-along and more through ZOOM, a web-based video platform that can be easily accessed through your computer, tablet or smart phone. Jump on our latest Surfside Adult Zoom Group on Friday May 29th at 2pm for a special session to share questions, concerns, fears and disappointments regarding Summer 2020.  Join us to share ideas, feelings and give encouragement to others.

Zumba

Join us for a virtual Zumba class, get a total body workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility.

Toning with Weights

Join us for a virtual toning class, get a total body workout, with a focus on muscle conditioning.

Morning Stretch

Morning stretches are the best way to start the day. Kick of your day the healthy way with a virtual morning stretch class.

Yoga

Join us for virtual Yoga. In this class the basic, foundational yoga postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. 

-     Equipment: yoga blocks and straps. A tie or rope can be used if you do not have a yoga strap. A book can be used if you do not have a yoga block.

Aerobics/Body Sculpting Class

This class consists of various types of cardio aerobics including Low Impact and step aerobics that is easy to follow to enhance your cardio workout. This will be followed by a segment of strength training, abdominal workout, and cool down. 

-       Equipment: If you do not have a step you can do the same movements on the floor without a step. Two cans of soup can be used if you do not have weights, a broom or mop can be used if you do not have a body bar.

Pilates

Through a series of exercises using resistance bands, balls, and rings, this workout helps build, sculpt, and tone muscles, giving your body a long, lean look. Pilates aids in flexibility and improving posture, as stretching your body is a vital part of class.

-       Equipment: a tie or rope can be used if you do not have a resistance band or ring. A can of soup or vegetables can be used if you do not have a ball.

Trivia Games

Join us for virtual Trivia Games! Let’s have fun and see how smart you are in subjects anywhere from Geography, History, Entertainment and General Subjects.

JustBE Guided Mindfulness practice for Parents

A guided meditation practice for parents to restore and reclaim balance.

YOUTH CLASSES

Quarantine Talk Time for Tweens and Teens 

Coping with quarantine and pandemic issues can be scary and difficult for our kids.  It’s normal for kids to experience anxiety, loneliness, sadness, and  boredom during quarantine. They may feel unsure or hopeless about future. Disappointed about summer plans, unsure about school next year. Feeling separated from friends. Concerned about family. 

This SURFSIDE SUPPORT ZOOM will give them an opportunity to connect with other kids to share thoughts and feelings, offer support, and learn skills to manage anxiety in this upbeat and open forum.

Teen Scene

Calling all TEENS! The Surfside Parks and Recreation will be hosting ZOOM group discussions with teens in the community to receive input on ideas for civic projects, community outreach, senior engagement and the opportunity to participate in lively conversations while stuck at home.

PRE-Teen Scene

Calling all Pre-TEENS! The Surfside Parks and Recreation will be hosting ZOOM group discussions with other pre-teens in the community. The program will consist of brainstorming sessions, ideas for civic and environmental projects and community outreach.

Super Soccer Stars

Join us for virtual soccer. Each program will help children get their daily exercise while having fun. We make sure every child can follow along, regardless of access to equipment, by using easily available items around the house in fun and imaginative ways.

Dry Land Swim Work Out 

Hold onto your fitness and increase your swimming strength with a virtual dry land swim workout.

Kids Zumba

Hip Hop

Join us for Virtual Hip Hop. Dancers develop focus, strength, agility, rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography with current music from todays hits. Students are challenged to think on their feet all while having fun.

Jazz Fusion

Cyclone Soccer

The Town of Surfside along with Cyclone Soccer Miami will be providing soccer classes online for all Surfside residents. During the classes, we will be watching a video, where all participants must complete the activities following along. Coaches will be present to give help to anyone that has any questions or to fix any mistakes. We want to invite everyone to be part of our online soccer classes!

Taekwon-Do

If you have taken Taekwon-Do classes with Master Aaron Fruitstone, he will be giving access to all Blue Dragon participants in order to maintain your training. To access the activities please follow the steps below.

To access the context, one must first request Aaron Fruitstone as a friend. 

Once accepted, he will add you to the Private Facebook Community, where you will have access to videos, events and news related to all Blue Dragon Taekwon-Do activities.

Keep Busy at Home Activities:

Feeling restless or bored at home? It is for your safety amid growing coronavirus concerns. Lucky for residents, the Surfside Parks and Recreation Department has compiled a number of activities for kids, adults and seniors to fill their time. Check out the list below. 

As a reminder, the Town of Surfside has issued a “Safer at Home” Emergency Order, in effect until further notice. View the Emergency Order here and learn what this means to you. 

Virtual Online Activities 

Silver Sneakers has a video exercise class specifically fit for seniors.

Zoom In  with Baptist Health  Weekly community health classes through Zoom.

Actor's Playhouse Virtual Classes Is offering weekly Zoom virtual classes.

Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach will have video lessons  on sea turtles and other marine life topics. You can watch the lessons live at 2 pm Monday-Friday on their Facebook page. Scroll down to “Posts” to tune in.

Calling All Pre-Teens & Teens!

The Surfside Parks and Recreation will be hosting ZOOM group discussions with teens in the community to receive input on fun activities and engage in lively conversations while stuck at home. Virtual meet-ups will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Pre-Teens and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for Teens, every Tuesday and Thursday, starting April 6, 2020. #SurfsideTogether Coloring Activity

Surfside residents Sheri Marron and her husband/artist David De Cespedes created a colorful activity that residents can do at home to promote a positive #SurfsideTogether message to kids and the community during this difficult time. Below are instructions and links to the activity sheets:
