Spice Up Your Life and Support Local! Three Surfside Restaurants Set for August and September’s Miami Spice Program

Aug 05, 2021

It’s peak summer in Greater Miami and for a rapidly-growing population of resident foodies, that can only mean one thing – it’s time for Miami Spice. Running throughout August and September, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB) hit restaurant program has become so popular it is now considered one of the largest restaurant promotional programs in the entire United States.

For those not familiar with Miami Spice, participating restaurants offer high-value, three-course dining experiences at a reduced cost, with lunch priced at $28 and dinner at $42. This year, three Surfside restaurants are participating: 26 Sushi & Tapas, Mendel’s Backyard BBQ + Brew, and La Plage at the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside. When planning your restaurant list this year, make sure these local gems are included!

If you’re into sushi and Latin cuisine, 26 Sushi & Tapas might need to be at the very top of your list. They offer Spice for both lunch and dinner (be sure to check participating days), and their menus reflect their two primary culinary influences, Japanese fare and Latin cuisine. The result is a vibrant mix of flavors as evidenced by their Poke Bowl offering and Salmon Garden with huancaina sauce and plantain chips; lunch menu items especially appealing in hot summer months. Dinner entrée options include Miso Marinated Seabass and Bourbon Salmon Noodles. Click here to view their full menus. View the menu and participating days.

Those who gravitate towards old-fashioned cooking with bold flavors will want to check out Mendel’s Backyard BBQ + Brew. A Harding Avenue staple for several years now, this award-winning kosher BBQ spot is known for its succulent meats, masterful original sauces and even its own craft beers. The Spice menu, available for dinner Sunday through Thursday, features some of Mendel’s signature items including Pico Fries, Slow-Smoked Brisket and Bourbon Pecan Pie. View the full menu. For a seaside, partially al fresco setting, head to La Plage, the main restaurant at the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside. Their Spice menu is offered for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week. This elegant oceanfront restaurant specializes in continental cuisine with a local twist. The menus include refreshing starters like Beef Carpaccio or Chilled Gazpacho, plus savory entrees such as Duck Confit, Fruitti de Mare pasta, or a classic Wagyu Burger. Dessert options include Chocolate Mousse, as well as Apple and Caramel Tarts. After dinner, head to their 12th-floor Skybar to enjoy the stunning rooftop views. View the menu and participating days.

Need a little more convincing to help get you into Surfside’s summer Spice season? Consider this –for the entire program’s duration, all proceeds from reservations booked through OpenTable.com for any Miami Spice restaurant will be donated to Surfside businesses. That’s right, whenever you book on OpenTable for any Miami Spice reservation - even outside of Town - you are helping Surfside businesses recover from the prolonged road closures related to the Champlain Tower South.

So, this August and September, grab your friends and family and head to one of Surfside’s amazing restaurants for Miami Spice! Remember, these deals are only available for a limited time.
