Meet Sharon Howell: General Manager at the Residence Inn Miami Beach Surfside

Mar 03, 2022

Sharon HowellThis March, accomplished women from Surfside and beyond are being celebrated for their creativity, leadership and skills during #womenshistorymonth. Although small in size, the Town of Surfside includes many #bosswomen who make meaningful contributions to our diverse community. One of them is Sharon Howell, general manager at one of our Town’s most popular hotels, the lovely Residence Inn Miami Beach Surfside.

Originally from Barbados, Sharon was introduced to the industry after taking up a front desk job in Connecticut, where she grew up after emigrating to the U.S. with her mother – a primary source of courage and inspiration. Sharon’s mom successfully looked after the family as a single parent in a new country while remaining very involved and ensuring that she would one day complete her accounting degree, something that would ultimately be required in her current role.

Her continuing education would eventually lead her to Hyatt, where she spent over 25 of her core and formative years working for one of the industry’s biggest names. Hyatt would take Sharon to two of Florida’s key markets, Tampa and Orlando, although she would return to the Northeast prior to joining Surfside. For four years, she worked in the leadership at a key hotel in the Washington D.C. area just outside of Capitol Hill. It wasn’t long before Florida came calling again via Aimbridge Hospitality, a management company that had acquired a desirable new property in Surfside.

Three months into her new role, Sharon finds herself enjoying the things that make Surfside special, and sharing that with guests. “It’s close to Miami Beach, but yet so different” she says. “This area is quiet, relaxing, and has everything guests need all within a few blocks” highlighting that the property is just across the street from the beach, one block from the Surfside Community Center, and just a few streets down from Harding Avenue’s business district and Bal Harbour Shops. Plus, all Miami has to offer is just a short drive away.

Prospective visitors have much to look forward to this year, with several enhancements in the works. The pool deck is due to be revamped along with the adjacent cabanas which offer a perfect place to spend the day. This follows the reopening of the pool bar, open daily from 11 a.m. to sundown, and striking new courtyard landscaping which aims to match the Town’s lush, vibrant feel.

We hope you have enjoyed learning more about Sharon’s brilliant journey to female leadership. If you’re planning a vacation this year, be sure to consider the gorgeous all-suite Residence Inn Miami Beach Surfside where Sharon and her team will make you feel right at home!
