Biking Around Surfside

Nov 01, 2021

Visiting Surfside this fall and looking for ways to explore the area? Biking is the perfect and most sustainable way to get around Surfside and see all that the Town has to offer! Situated on one square-mile of beachfront in between Bal Harbour and Miami Beach, Surfside is perfect for bikers of all ages and abilities. From a leisurely bike through our quiet art deco neighborhood to a quick cycle along the beach pathway, read on to learn more about bicycling in Surfside.

Cruise the Strip

If you’re looking for a reason to explore Surfside’s business district on Harding Avenue, biking there is the best way to uncover hidden gems. There’s also a clearly delineated biking path on the road so you can ride safely. While you’re there, pick up desserts at Miami Beach Chocolates Surfside (you can’t go wrong with the truffles) or stop into Flanigan’s (their ribs are award-winning) to catch a game. Both places have bike racks nearby so that you can park your bike while you discover Harding Avenue.

Bike Along the Beach

Surfside is known for its mile-long stretch of pristine white sand beach, so a beachside ride is a must! Bike along the oceanfront bike path that runs from 87th Terrace to 96th Street to take in some fresh sea air and enjoy some of the best views in Surfside. The bike path parallels the walking path and gives bicyclists a crisp beachy breeze while enjoying some of Surfside’s most impressive architecture along Collins Avenue. You’ll see buildings completed by Pritzker Prize winning architect, Richard Meier at the Four Seasons Surf Club, the Arquitectonica designed Fendi Chateau, and ARTE by Italian powerhouse architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel. Bike amongst the natural and architectural beauty that makes Surfside so special.

Explore the Neighborhood

Be sure to breeze through Surfside’s residential center to the west of Byron Avenue, these side streets are a great place to do some light biking and enjoy the weather. Along the ride, you’ll get to see the quiet side of Surfside, one full of beautiful art deco homes and lush landscaping. If you want a place to stop, the 96th Street Park Pavilion is located on the Northern end of your loop around town. This popular kid play area is a great place to sit in the shade or play on the swings.

Bike with Citibike

Don’t have your own bike? Citi Bike is available in Surfside! The Citi Bike program is Miami's solar-powered, people-powered bike sharing and rental system intended to give locals and visitors an efficient and convenient transportation option for getting around the city.

The specially designed, durable bikes are locked into a docking station and can be rented by the hour or through a monthly membership. There are two bike stations located along Harding Avenue, at 94th Street and 88th Streets, and one bike station on Collins and 93rd for easy access to the beach. They are available to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Cycling in Surfside

If cycling is more your thing, Surfside has a continuous loop that works out to be approximately one-mile long. Along the ride you’ll get a view of everything the town has to offer, from the beautiful beach to its tranquil leafy streets.
