Parks and Recreation and the Tourist Board are teaming up to celebrate Earth Day in a big way! Join us at the Community Center from 10 a.m. to noon for the Parks and Recreation Earth Day Resource Fair featuring a photo contest, as well as informational partners and activities.

Head to the beach at 93rd street afterwards for the 2024 Earth Day Plastic Fishing Festival in partnership with @plasticfisherman!

The Festival encourages participants to make their best plastic fish of the day. Sunday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 93rd Street Beach. The concept is simple:

  • Pick up plastic on the beach
  • Use a handful of pieces to create an ephemeral work of art, such as a plastic fish
  • Take a photo and tag it with #plasticfishing on social media to amplify the message
  • Then, clean it all up and dispose of it properly.

In addition to art, creativity, and conservation, the Plastic Fishing Festival will feature Miami-Dade County’s Sea Turtle Program and Ocean Rescue Alliance International as event partners. Participants will help celebrate Surfside's turtle nesting season, which typically takes place from spring to October. Attendees can also expect custom gear,  music, prizes and vendors.

A perfect way to celebrate Mother Earth alongside family and friends, while learning about conservation and ways to protect the planet.
