Bike Bus Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bike Bus open to students in all grades?

Yes! Students in all grades are welcome to participate. Parents and caregivers should use their discretion when deciding whether their child is ready to bike to school.

A child is typically ready when they can:

  • Start and brake easily.

  • Follow verbal directions.

  • Understand and follow street signs.

  • Ride confidently and keep up with the group.

Can kids ride unaccompanied?

Parents and caregivers are strongly encouraged to ride alongside their child, especially if it is the child's first time bike riding to school.

What should my child do with their book bag?

Please pack a light backpack that is comfortable for your child to wear while riding. Avoid overpacking to help make the ride safe and comfortable.

Does my child need to wear a helmet?

Yes. Florida law requires bicycle riders under 16 years old to wear a helmet. Safety first!

Can I follow the Bike Bus in my car?

No. Please do not follow the Bike Bus in your vehicle. Doing so may create an unsafe situation for riders and other road users.

Where will the bikes be stored?

Bikes can be chained at the bike racks at the school.

Can I take my child's bike home after the ride?

Yes. Parents and caregivers may either leave the bike at the school bike racks or take it home after the Bike Bus arrives at school.

What happens after school?

The Bike Bus does not operate after school. Parents and caregivers are responsible for getting their children and their bikes home. Children and bicycles can be picked up at the school's bike racks at dismissal. Parents and caregivers may also return later in the afternoon to pick up a bike.
