This week’s episode of "Mondays with the Manager" features a heartfelt tribute as Town Manager Mark Blumstein spotlights a new addition to Surfside’s Turtle Walk: "Jimmy the Turtle," a holiday-themed sculpture dedicated to the memory of James Martin Corpora.
The sculpture, created by artist Ksenia Craven, was donated by the Damiani family and is located outside Town Hall. It brings a festive touch to the civic center while honoring the life of Corpora, a longtime Surfsider, family man known for his humor, generosity and love of storytelling.
“This turtle not only adds festive charm to the Turtle Walk,” Blumstein said, “but it also represents the personal stories that shape our community.”
Corpora died Nov. 8, 2024, at age 69. He is remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
“My dad was full of life, laughter and love,” said Dannielle Damiani, his daughter and a Surfside resident. “We’re so thankful the Town embraced this tribute. Seeing the turtle outside Town Hall feels like a piece of him is always here.”
Vice Mayor Tina Paul, who attended the unveiling, said the sculpture is a fitting memorial. “Turtles symbolize kindness, patience and wisdom — all qualities James embodied,” she said.
"Mondays with the Manager" is a Town initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between residents and the Town administration by offering a behind-the-scenes look at Commission priorities, community partnerships and ongoing projects.
