Surfside residents living in single-family or duplex homes are eligible to receive up to two free trees per year through Miami-Dade County’s Adopt-a-Tree program. Since launching in 2001, the program has distributed more than 246,000 trees countywide.
The 2025 season begins Sunday, May 18, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Miami Central Senior High School, 1781 NW 95th St., Miami. Trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is encouraged to confirm eligibility, though it does not guarantee tree availability.
Planned tree selections for the May event include: Florida Keys blackbead, grafted carambola, gumbo limbo, jaboticaba, joewood, locustberry, Malay apple, paradise tree, pigeon plum, red mulberry, red stopper and soursop.
Two additional events are scheduled for the 2025 season:
Saturday, June 28, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Kaseya Center, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Registration opens in late May. Trees may include: Barbados cherry, black ironwood, crabwood, Florida fiddlewood, grafted mango, mamey, marlberry, Simpson’s stopper, soursop and sugar apple.
Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay. Registration opens in early August. Tree options may include: firebush, grafted carambola, grafted mango, jaboticaba, jackfruit, Jamaican caper, red mulberry, white stopper and yellow necklacepod.
To expedite pickup, residents are encouraged to register online in advance and bring their registration number to the event.
