Surfside Celebrates Historic 90th Anniversary

On Sunday, May 18, exactly 90 years after the Town of Surfside was formed by 35 members of The Surf Club in 1935, Surfside marked its historic 90th Anniversary with a throwback-inspired Evening Celebration Event presented by the Resort Tax Board.

Vice Mayor Tina Paul and Commissioner Gerardo Vildostegui provided remarks during the program and spoke movingly about their memories in Surfside. They joined Town Manager Mark Blumstein and a long list of Former Elected Officials, and Boards & Committee members in attendance.

Surfside's Youth Council had a significant presence with a dedicated table where they discussed their ongoing initiatives and handed out a packet of native seeds to promote green practices. Approved by the Seminole Tribe, the packet included local flora seeds dating back to the time of the Tequesta tribe.

Local event producer @Releaf Designs created an elegant and enchanting ambiance for visitors and residents to enjoy featuring custom decorations and lighting, orchids and plant arrangements, as well as a tasty menu of kosher and non-kosher food to enjoy. Attendees also enjoyed live music entertainment from two marquee bands courtesy of AA Musicians, and a stunning Art Deco inspired step & repeat created by Cloud Creative Experiences.

Introduced by the Youth Council, the screening of "Surfside: A Living Legacy" served as the event's highlight. Filmed and edited by Youth Council Member Yasmine al-Sahli and produced by Judy Martinez, the video featured a remarkable cast of legacy residents who recounted their fondest memories and reflected on Surfside's present journey.

Thank you to all of our partners and residents! Here's to the next great decade.
