The Town of Surfside came together Monday at Veterans Park for a meaningful Memorial Day ceremony honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the nation. Hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department, the program brought together about 100 residents and guests and featured a Presentation of Colors by the Surfside Police Department Honor Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem by New World School of the Arts student Lisset Ledon, an invocation by Rabbi Dov Schochet of The Shul, remarks from guest speaker Sergeant Major Joseph Hissong of U.S. Southern Command, and a benediction by Reverend Juan J. Sosa of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In attendance were Mayor Burkett, Vice Mayor Paul, Commissioner Vildostegui, Town Manager Mark Blumstein, Chief of Police Press and Deputy Chief Doce. Residents gathered in unity to reflect, remember and pay tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.
