The Town of Surfside has updated parking rules in its residential district to improve public safety and eliminate confusion for both residents and visitors.
No parking is permitted between Harding and Abbott Avenues on 88th, 89th, and 91st through 93rd Streets. Town officials cite the narrow width of these streets and the need to maintain access for emergency vehicles as the primary reasons for the change.
“We’re protecting our residents and emergency response routes,” said Town Manager Mark Blumstein. “These updates ensure first responders can move freely through our neighborhoods when every second counts.”
In addition, new signage has been installed along Abbott, Byron, and Carlyle Avenues designating paid and one-hour time-limited parking. Free parking remains available for Surfside residents and their guests only. All others must pay to park and observe the one-hour limit. Violators will be ticketed.
“This is about keeping the rules fair and clear,” said Major Matelis of the Surfside Police Department. “Residents will see enhanced signage and active enforcement to support these changes.”
Residents are encouraged to notify their guests of the updated rules and to always check posted signage when parking in the Town.
