In Episode 6 of "
Mondays with the Manager," Town Manager Mark Blumstein walks viewers through Surfside’s updated residential parking regulations, offering real-life examples of why these changes are necessary and how they enhance safety and accessibility Town-wide.
“We’re making sure residents have access, vehicles can get through, and parking rules are applied fairly across the board,” says Town Manager Blumstein.
Blumstein explains that parking is prohibited between Harding and Abbott Avenues on 88th, 89th, and 91st through 93rd Streets. These roads are narrow, and parked vehicles significantly limit visibility and block emergency access. “It’s a matter of public safety,” said Blumstein. “When cars are parked too close to corners or along narrow streets, cars and other emergency vehicles simply can’t get through easily."
The episode highlights common violations, including parking alongside double yellow lines or directly on painted lines, both of which are not allowed. The Town Manager also clarifies that “no parking” restrictions apply to both sides of a sign.
In addition to enhancing emergency access, the regulations are designed to better serve residents by freeing up space for them and their guests. Non-residents including beachgoers, contractors, and other visitors, must pay to park and are limited to a one-hour time frame in marked zones along Abbott, Byron, and Carlyle Avenues all throughout Town.
Please remember that residents and their guests may park at no charge and with no time limit when lawfully parked. Any citations issued in error will be quickly resolved by Town staff.
Guest parking placards remain available for Surfside residents and can be picked up at Town Hall, Window 1. A virtual registration system is currently in development and will be announced soon.
