Surfside Attends Historic MDCLC Gala Celebrating Unity & Leadership

Town of Surfside officials joined municipal leaders from across Miami-Dade County at the 71st Annual Miami-Dade County League of Cities (MDCLC) Gala, held Saturday, June 7, at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel. The event marked the historic installation of El Portal Mayor Omarr C. Nickerson, Ph.D., as MDCLC’s new president—the first Native American to hold the position in both the League and county’s history. Representing Surfside were Vice Mayor Tina Paul, Town Manager Mark Blumstein, Town Attorney Thais Hernandez, Town Clerk Sandra N. McCready, Public Works Director Andre Eugent, Human Resources Director Marisol Vargas, and Director of Communications Cindy Reyes.

“Being part of this celebration was incredibly meaningful,” said Vice Mayor Paul. “Mayor Nickerson’s leadership symbolizes a new era of unity, inclusion, and representation in municipal government. Surfside is proud to support the League’s mission of collaboration and strong local governance.”
