In the latest episode of "Mondays with the Manager", Town Manager Mark Blumstein addressed ongoing concerns about improper landscape debris disposal, reminding residents and commercial landscapers to follow the Town’s Code requirements.
“Debris left out on the wrong day doesn’t just create a mess, it creates a hazard,” Blumstein said. “It’s not just about keeping our streets clean, it’s about safety, accountability, and respect for our neighbors.”
Under the Town Code, residents may place up to four cubic yards of landscape trimmings curbside on their scheduled pickup day. Blumstein also emphasized the importance of keeping hedges trimmed so they do not block the public right-of-way, noting that overgrown hedges can obstruct stop signs and create serious safety issues for drivers and pedestrians.
“It may seem like a small detail, but when hedges block stop signs or sidewalks, it puts everyone at risk,” he said. “We need everyone’s help to keep Surfside safe and walkable.”
Residents are reminded not to leave any trimmings out for collection on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Violations will result in a notice from the Town and, in the case of repeat offenses, potential fines. Commercial landscapers are also required to remove all cuttings and debris from the Town after completing their work.
