Surfside Seniors Sail Bayside on Parks and Recreation Trip

Surfside seniors enjoyed a day of waterfront views, shopping and sightseeing during a recent Parks and Recreation trip to Bayside Marketplace, highlighted by a scenic boat tour along Biscayne Bay.

The group traveled from the Surfside Community Center and boarded the Island Queen for a narrated cruise past Miami’s famed Millionaire Row, offering participants a relaxing opportunity to take in the city skyline and historic waterfront homes. Seniors also had time to explore Bayside Marketplace’s shops and restaurants before returning to Surfside later that afternoon.

Parks and Recreation Coordinator Jorge Galdo said the trip was designed to create meaningful experiences while fostering a sense of connection and pride among participants.

“Our senior trips are about more than just getting out of Town for the day,” Galdo said. “They’re about building community, creating memories and celebrating what makes Surfside special. Hearing our seniors share why they love Surfside was incredibly meaningful.”

During the outing, seniors participated in a short video sharing personal reflections about Surfside and what makes the Town special to them. Those moments are featured as part of the Town’s new #I❤️Surfside social media initiative, which encourages residents to share stories, photos and videos celebrating their connection to the community. The campaign hopes to spark community engagement and showcase Surfside’s unique character through the voices of its residents.

Residents are invited to participate by posting why they love Surfside on social media using the hashtag #I❤️Surfside.
