The Town of Surfside commemorated Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, with a ceremony honoring the courageous service members who gave their lives in defense of the United States.
Held at 10 a.m., the ceremony brought together residents, veterans, elected officials, public safety personnel and community members for a morning of remembrance, patriotism and reflection.
Mayor Shlomo Danzinger served as master of ceremonies as the event opened with the Presentation of Colors by the Surfside Police Department Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem performed by Wiktoria Sikorska, a student at New World School of the Arts.
Rabbi Shea Rubinstein of The Shul delivered the invocation, offering prayers and reflections honoring the sacrifices made by members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The ceremony also featured remarks from guest speaker Sgt. First Class Aaron Hall of the United States Army and Special Forces, along with acknowledgments from Vice Mayor Dayana Benmergui, Commissioner Andrea Travani and Commissioner David Weingot.
Veterans in attendance were recognized for their service during a special portion of the program, highlighting the Town’s continued commitment to honoring those who have served the nation.
The ceremony concluded with a wreath laying, a performance of “Taps” by Jonathan Glasgow of Bugles Across America and a traditional three-gun salute by the Second Infantry Division of Florida.
The Memorial Day ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice and dedication of America’s fallen heroes and reflected Surfside’s ongoing tradition of honoring military service and community unity.
