
The Town of Surfside recognized the winners of its inaugural Poetry Contest during the June 9 Town Commission meeting, celebrating creativity, literary expression and community engagement through the arts.
Launched in observance of National Poetry Month, the contest invited residents to submit original poetry showcasing their creativity and appreciation for the written word. The initiative marked the first time the Town hosted a communitywide poetry competition.
The contest drew submissions from poetry enthusiasts of all ages. Town Mayor Shlomo Danzinger announced the following winners during the meeting:
Adult Category
• First Prize: Ashley Urbanski
• Second Prize: Ursula and Klaus Schmitz
Children's Category
• Mia Ehrman
• London Friedman
• Shilo Moshkovitz
Commissioners recognized the winners for their outstanding submissions and thanked all participants for contributing to the success of the contest.
The inaugural Poetry Contest reflects the Town's ongoing commitment to supporting arts and cultural programming that enriches community life and encourages creative expression among residents.
Residents interested in participating in future contests are encouraged to begin preparing their submissions for the 2027 Poetry Contest.
