Kites, Bites and Beachside Fun Takes Over Surfside

Surfside’s summer spirit was soaring on Sunday, Aug. 16, as families and friends gathered at the beach for Summer Sundays: Kites & Bites. The afternoon brought together food, music, creativity and plenty of beachside fun for residents and visitors of all ages.

Guests enjoyed delicious bites from Wok N’ Roll and Ike’s Catering, live music from Soul Travelers, complimentary kites, arts and crafts, and a variety of activities for children and families. Attendees also had the opportunity to relax under Beach Club umbrellas by Shibumi Shades, visit the Mahjong social play tent, cool off with refreshments, enjoy snacks and protein bars, and take part in a free book swap and other interactive activities.

The event also featured a sensory play area for toddlers, an SPF station provided by SJI Dermatology and a range of family-friendly activities designed to make the most of a summer afternoon in Surfside.

Vice Mayor Benmergui and Commissioner Travani joined Acting Town Manager Sandra N. McCready, Interim Chief of Police Jay Matelis, and members of the Surfside Tourist Board in welcoming the community and enjoying the afternoon’s festivities.

Sponsored by the Surfside Tourist Board, Summer Sundays: Kites & Bites was a celebration of the simple pleasures that make summer in Surfside special — sunshine, community, good food and time spent together by the beach. Join us for the final event of the season, Slice & Surf on Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m.
