Surfside Celebrates Earth Day with Eco-Friendly Events

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Town of Surfside hosted two impactful events in honor of Earth Day, emphasizing sustainability and community engagement.

The morning kicked off with the Earth Day Resource Fair at the Surfside Community Center, organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., families and residents explored various eco-friendly initiatives and local resources, promoting sustainable practices.

Simultaneously, the Plastic Fishing Festival, sponsored by the Resort Tax Board, took place at 93rd Street Beach from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants actively cleaned up the beach, transforming collected plastic waste into imaginative sculptures, highlighting the importance of combating ocean pollution.

Vice Mayor Tina Paul, Commissioner Gerardo Vildostegui, and members of the Resort Tax Board, Cynthia Calloway and Judy Martinez, participated in these events. The day also featured a pelican release ceremony, courtesy of Pelican Harbor Seabird Station.

Both events fostered a spirit of environmental stewardship and community unity, encouraging residents to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
