Surfside Offers Grant Program for Building Recertification Fees

The Town of Surfside has approved a new grant program aimed at helping condominium associations offset the cost of mandatory building recertification permit fees, reinforcing the Town’s commitment to public safety and structural integrity.

Adopted through Resolution No. 2026-3495, the Building Recertification Permit Fee Assistance Grant Program provides financial relief to eligible multi-family residential condominium buildings required to complete 30-year, 40-year, 50-year or 60-year recertifications.

The program is designed to ease the financial burden associated with municipal recertification fees while encouraging timely compliance with safety requirements.

Who is eligible

To qualify, applicants must be condominium buildings located within the Town of Surfside that are subject to mandatory recertification. Buildings must also be in good standing, with no outstanding liens, unresolved code violations or unpaid municipal obligations, unless under an approved compliance plan.

Applications must be submitted by the condominium association. Individual unit owners are not eligible to apply independently.

What the grant covers

The program provides reimbursement specifically for municipal building recertification permit fees, including structural and electrical review fees. Costs related to engineering, construction, repairs, legal services or fines are not eligible.

Each eligible condominium building may receive up to $200,000 per recertification cycle, subject to available funding. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-qualified basis.

What is required to apply

Condominium associations must submit a complete application that includes:

  • Proof of payment of recertification permit fees
  • Documentation confirming the recertification requirement
  • A board resolution authorizing the application
  • A completed W-9 form and payment information
  • Any additional documentation requested by the Town

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How the program works

Applications will be reviewed by the Town’s Building and Finance departments. Final eligibility and award decisions will be made by the Town Manager or designee, based on available funding.

Funds will be issued as reimbursement directly to the condominium association after verification of payment and eligibility.

The program supports compliance with critical safety standards while helping condominium communities manage rising costs.
